CITY CENTER ­ ALTSTADT. This beautiful 16th century church was restored after World War II and offers visitors an interesting look at the religious architecture of the region. Views from the twin towers of the historic church are considered some of the best in the city. Tours are given regularly of the church's interior. U/S-BAHN: Marienplatz

CITY CENTER ­ ALTSTADT. The oldest church in Munich and dating from the late 12th century, this Baroque masterpiece offers sweeping views of the city and the popular Marienplatz below. There is no elevator, but on clear days the climb to the top of the steeple pays off with views as far as the Alps. It's also a beautiful example of medieval religious architecture and parallels the growth and development of the city.
